Seibiant byr i gael hwyl a rhyddid

Tyfu i Fyny’n rhy Gyflym

Mae Jack yn 11 oed ac yn byw yn Abertawe gyda’i fam a Sky, Labrador bach du sy’n bump oed. Mae’r teulu’n agos iawn, ond mae Jack wedi gorfod tyfu i fyny’n gynt na’r rhan fwyaf o blant yr un oedran ag ef.

Mae mam Jack yn byw gyda nifer o gyflyrau iechyd difrifol sy’n effeithio ar ei chalon, ei iau, ei choluddyn a’i harennau. Jack yw ei phrif ofalwr o ddydd i ddydd, ac mae’n gwneud llawer i gadw’r aelwyd i fynd. Mae’n gofalu am Sky, yn gyfrifol am dasgau fel golchi dillad a hwfro, ac mae’n helpu gyda thasgau sy’n anodd yn gorfforol, fel cario siopa neu gario logiau ar gyfer y tân.

Mae Jack hefyd yn rhoi cymorth i'w fam mewn ffyrdd personol: mae’n ei helpu i wisgo, yn cadw golwg ar ei meddyginiaeth, ac yn paratoi prydau bwyd a phaneidiau o de. Mae’n gwneud hyn oll ar ben mynd i’r ysgol, gwneud gwaith cartref a gweld ei ffrindiau — ac ar adegau, mae’r pwysau’n aruthrol.

Weithiau dwi’n teimlo dan straen... mae pethau bach yn peri gofid i mi a dwi’n teimlo’n flin iawn. Alla i ddim rheoli fy emosiynau.

                    Jack

Gofalu gyda Chariad - Ond yn Teimlo’r Pwysau

Mae helpu ei fam yn rhoi ymdeimlad cryf o falchder i Jack. Ond fel llawer o ofalwyr ifanc, ochr emosiynol gofalu sydd anoddaf iddo. Mae’n cyflawni cyfrifoldebau oedolion cyn ac ar ôl ysgol, ac mae poeni am iechyd ei fam drwy'r amser yn gallu ei gwneud yn anodd iddo fwynhau bod yn blentyn.

Seibiant sy’n Gwneud Gwahaniaeth

Diolch i’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr, mae Jack wedi gallu camu i ffwrdd o’i gyfrifoldebau gofalu a mwynhau dau gyfnod o seibiant gydag Elusen Blant HoneyPot yn nhŷ Pen y Bryn yng Nghymru. Dim ond 10 oed oedd Jack pan ddaeth i ymweld â Phen y Bryn gyntaf.

I Jack, mae’r cyfnodau hyn o seibiant yn fwy na gwyliau, maent yn gyfle i fod yn fachgen ifanc eto. Mae’n lle diogel a chefnogol, ac yn rhoi cyfle prin i oedolion ofalu amdano ef.

O'r eiliad y cyrhaeddodd Jack, roedd y staff wedi sylwi mor gyflym yr oedd yn setlo. Adeiladodd berthnasoedd da gyda gofalwyr ifanc eraill, yn ogystal â’r oedolion sydd yno i’w helpu. Dangosodd Jack yr un caredigrwydd ag y mae’n ei ddangos gartref, roedd bob amser yn barod i helpu eraill, ond fe ddysgodd hefyd ei bod yn iawn gofyn am gysur a sicrwydd.

Roeddwn i wrth fy modd â phob un rhan ohono... mae’n fy helpu i fod yn fi - oherwydd anaml rydw i’n cael bod yn fi.

                    Jack

Canfod Hapusrwydd a Rhyddid

Mae bod yn yr awyr agored wedi helpu Jack i ymlacio’n llwyr. Roedd wrth ei fodd â phêl-fasged a phêl-droed, ac fe dreuliodd ei amser yn rhedeg o gwmpas ac yn manteisio ar y cyfle i ddefnyddio ei egni. Roedd y staff yn gweld sut roedd cael trefn, cysur a chysondeb yn ei helpu i deimlo’n ddiogel ac i ymlacio, rhywbeth y mae llawer o ofalwyr ifanc yn cael trafferth ei wneud.

Yn Nhŷ Pen y Bryn, roedd Jack yn gallu canolbwyntio ar y pethau sy’n bwysig i blant ei oedran ef: nofio, chwarae gemau, chwerthin, a gwneud ffrindiau gyda gofalwyr ifanc eraill sydd yn deall ei fyd.

Mae gwybod bod Jack yn rhywle diogel ac yn cael amser da yn gwneud byd o wahaniaeth. Mae elusen Honeypot yn rhoi’r cyfle i’r ddau ohonom gael seibiant ac i ganolbwyntio arnom ni ein hunain am unwaith.

                       Mam Jack

Dod adref wedi ymlacio

Mae cael amser i ffwrdd wedi helpu Jack i fagu hyder ac i feithrin gwydnwch emosiynol. Roedd sylweddoli y byddai ei fam yn iawn tra’r oedd o wedi mynd yn golygu y gallai fwynhau cael seibiant heb boeni.

Bob tro y bydd Jack yn dod adref, mae’n fwy hamddenol, ac mae wedi adfywio sy’n golygu ei fod yn fwy abl i ymdopi â’r heriau dyddiol sy’n dod law yn llaw â bod yn ofalwr ifanc.

Dwi’n meddwl y bydd hi’n haws gofalu am mam ar ôl cael cyfnod o seibiant llawn hwyl.

                       Jack

Cyfle i fod yn Jack

Mae’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn cynnig rhywbeth eithriadol o brin i Jack: lle i fod yn blentyn - heb gyfrifoldebau, disgwyliadau, na phwysau.

Mae’r seibiant yn adfer ei egni, yn cryfhau ei hyder, ac yn rhoi'r gefnogaeth sydd ei hangen arno i barhau i ddarparu gofal hanfodol bob dydd.

A short break to discover fun and freedom

Growing Up Too Quickly

Jack is 11 years old and lives near Swansea with his mum and their five-year-old black Labrador, Sky. It’s a close-knit household, but one where Jack has had to grow up faster than most children his age.

Jack’s mum lives with several serious health conditions affecting her heart, liver, bowels and kidneys. As her main day-to-day support, Jack does a huge amount to keep the household going. He looks after Sky, manages chores like laundry and hoovering, and helps with physically demanding jobs such as carrying shopping or bringing in logs for the fire.

He also supports his mum in very personal ways: helping her get dressed, keeping track of medication, and preparing meals and cups of tea. All of this fits around school, homework and friendships — and at times, the pressure is immense.

Sometimes it makes me feel stressed… I get triggered really easily and feel really angry. I just can’t control my emotions.

                      Jack

Caring with Love - But Carrying a Lot

Helping his mum gives Jack a strong sense of pride. But like many young carers, he often finds the emotional side of caring the hardest. He navigates adult responsibilities before and after school, and the constant worry about his mum’s health can make it difficult to simply enjoy being a child.

A Break That Makes a Difference

Thanks to the Short Breaks Scheme, Jack has been able to step away from his caring responsibilities and enjoy two breaks with The Honeypot Children’s Charity at their Pen y Bryn House in Wales. His first visit was when he was just 10.

For Jack, these breaks aren’t just holidays, they’re a chance to be a young boy again. A safe, nurturing environment where adults look after him for a change.

From the moment he arrived, staff noticed how quickly he settled in. He built strong relationships with other young carers and with the adults supporting him. Jack showed the same kindness he displays at home, often helping others, while also learning that it was okay to ask for comfort and reassurance.

I loved every last bit of it… it helps me be myself - because I don’t normally get to be myself.

                    Jack

Discovering Joy and Freedom

Being outdoors helped Jack completely switch off. He loved basketball and football, spent his time running around, and embraced the chance to burn off energy. Staff saw how the routine, warmth and consistency helped him feel safe enough to relax, something many young carers struggle to do.

At Pen y Bryn House, Jack could focus on what matters most at his age: swimming, games, laughter, and making friends with other young carers who truly understand his world.

Knowing Jack is somewhere safe and having a good time makes all the difference. Honeypot allows us both to have a break and focus on ourselves for once.

                    Jack’s mum

Coming Home Recharged

Time away has helped Jack build confidence and emotional resilience. Realising his mum would be okay while he was gone meant he could enjoy the break without worry.

Each time Jack returns home, he does so feeling calmer, refreshed and more able to cope with the daily challenges of being a young carer.

I think it will be easier to look after my mum now I’ve had a fun break.

                    Jack

A Chance to Simply Be Jack

For Jack, the Short Breaks Scheme offers something incredibly rare: the space to just be a child - with no responsibilities, no expectations, and no pressure.

The break restores his energy, strengthens his confidence, and gives him the support he needs to continue the vital caring role he plays every day.

Sul y Mamau: Gorffwys, Canfod Cryfder a Chreu Cysylltiadau drwy’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr

Y wers fwyaf i fi yw rhoi caniatâd i fi fy hun adfer fy egni a delio ag euogrwydd mam.

Mae Sul y Mamau yn gyfle i gydnabod y menywod ledled Cymru sy’n rhoi cymaint ohonyn nhw eu hunain bob dydd, gan gynnwys y miloedd o famau sy’n rhoi gofal di-dâl i blant, partneriaid, rhieni ac anwyliaid.

Mae gan Gymru ganran uwch o ofalwyr di-dâl na rhannau eraill o’r Deyrnas Unedig, ac mae llawer o famau’n ei chael hi’n anodd cydnabod eu bod nhw’n ofalwyr, hyd yn oed, a hynny oherwydd bod gofalu’n rhan mor annatod o fod yn fam.

Mamau’n ofalwyr

Dyma Kate Cubbage, Cyfarwyddwr Ymddiriedolaeth Gofalwyr Cymru: “Gall mamau fod yn llai tebygol nag eraill o gydnabod ac ystyried eu hunain yn ofalwyr. Mae llawer ohonyn nhw wedi ymlâdd, dan straen ac yn cael trafferth gyda’u lles eu hunain – yn gorfforol ac yn feddyliol.

I lawer o famau, gweithred o gariad yw gofalu, ond mae hefyd yn achosi blinder corfforol, mae’n anodd yn emosiynol ac mae’n aml yn brofiad ynysig.

Mae mamau’n aml yn disgrifio’r teimlad o ‘fynd, mynd, mynd’ bob awr o’r dydd, gyda ‘phrin dim amser i anadlu’ - heb sôn am dreulio amser yn gofalu amdanyn nhw eu hunain. Gall treulio cyfnodau byr o amser yn dod atyn nhw eu hunain, drwy fynd am dro neu gwrdd â ffrind, deimlo’n amhosib.

Doeddwn i ddim yn sylweddoli cyn lleied oedd ar ôl gen i i'w roi nes i mi gael cyfle i arafu o’r diwedd.

               Gofalwr gyda Chennin Pedr

Effaith niweidiol

Mae llawer o famau’n ceisio cydbwyso sawl rôl - gweithio’n rhan-amser rhwng y gofynion gofalu, ymdopi ag apwyntiadau meddygol, cydlynu â thimau’r ysgol neu ofal cymdeithasol, a chefnogi perthnasau hŷn a brodyr a chwiorydd hefyd weithiau. Gall effaith hyn oll, gyda’i gilydd, arwain at iechyd corfforol a meddyliol gwael, straen ariannol ac ynysu cymdeithasol.

Pam mae Seibiant Byr yn Gwneud Gwahaniaeth

Dyna pam mae’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr, sy’n cael ei ariannu gan Lywodraeth Cymru a’i gydlynu gan Ymddiriedolaeth Gofalwyr Cymru, mor bwysig. Mae’r cynllun yn cynnig cyfle i ofalwyr di-dâl gael seibiant ystyrlon sydd wedi’i deilwra ar eu cyfer nhw ac sy’n cyd-fynd â phatrwm eu bywyd. I lawer o famau, mae’r cyfnodau hyn o orffwys a chreu cysylltiadau yn brofiad trawsnewidiol.

Fe gyrhaeddais i’n teimlo’n flinedig ac wedi ymlâdd... ac fe adewais i’n teimlo’n hollol wahanol.

               Gofalwr gydag InclusAbility

Mae’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn rhoi caniatâd i famau roi nhw eu hunain yn gyntaf - am y tro cyntaf ers blynyddoedd, yn aml iawn. Does dim rhaid i seibiant fod yn benwythnos i ffwrdd; gall fod yn rhywbeth bach ond ystyrlon: taleb llesiant, ambell awr mewn lle sy’n arbennig i'r fam, neu weithgaredd grŵp syml.

Mae’r therapïau holistaidd yn gwneud gwahaniaeth go iawn! Wrth adael, rwy’n teimlo fy mod i wedi dadflino ac yn barod i fynd eto.

               Gofalwr gyda Techtivity

Caniatâd i gael seibiant

Mae “euogrwydd mam” yn deimlad cyfarwydd i lawer o famau, ond i’r rheini sy’n ofalwyr mae poeni’n gallu gwneud yr euogrwydd yn waeth - poeni am adael eu plentyn, poeni a fydd pethau’n “mynd o chwith”, a phoeni a yw hi’n iawn iddyn nhw gamu’n ôl o gwbl.

Gall seibiant byr feddalu’r llais mewnol hwnnw. A phan fyddan nhw’n cael seibiant, mae'r manteision yn lledaenu fel tonnau i bob cyfeiriad.

Fe wnaeth un rhiant grisialu hyn yn berffaith ar ôl cymryd rhan mewn seibiant Campfire Cymru:

“Y wers fwyaf i fi yw rhoi caniatâd i fi fy hun adfer fy egni a delio ag euogrwydd mam.”

Mae rhieni sy’n ofalwyr yn aml yn dweud eu bod yn teimlo’n llai pryderus, yn fwy optimistaidd, ac mewn gwell cyflwr i ymdopi pan fyddan nhw’n dychwelyd adref.

Tawel ac ymlaciol... fe ges i amser i feddwl am sefyllfaoedd gartref ac i ddatrys ambell bryder oedd ar fy meddwl.

               Gofalwyr gyda’r Behaviour Support Hub

“Roeddwn i’n teimlo’n llai unig... weithiau, y cyfan sydd ei angen i allu gweld y ffordd ymlaen yw cael seibiant.” Gofalwr gyda’r All Wales Forum

Amser i chi’ch hun

Mae dyddiau rhai mamau yn cael eu diffinio gan ofynion cyflyrau iechyd, therapïau, heriau ymddygiad, neu drefniadau gofal cymhleth ac felly, iddyn nhw, mae cael rhywbeth sydd ar eu cyfer nhw’n unig yn wirioneddol ystyrlon. Mae’n adfer ymdeimlad o bwy ydyn nhw - nid ar wahân i’w dyletswyddau gofalu, ond ochr yn ochr â hynny.

Fe ges i heddwch, ac amser i fi fy hun... rwy’n teimlo’n fwy parod i ddychwelyd at y gofalu nawr.

Gofalwr gyda Gwasanaeth Gofalwyr Castell-nedd Port Talbot

Dychwelyd yn llawn egni newydd

Mae’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn cydnabod y llafur emosiynol, yr wyliadwriaeth barhaus, a’r cariad sy’n sail i’r holl ofalu. Mae’n rhoi cyfle i famau orffwys heb euogrwydd, adfer gwydnwch, a dychwelyd at eu teuluoedd gan deimlo’n fwy cadarn, yn ysgafnach ac â mwy o gefnogaeth.

Mae bod yn fam ac yn ofalwr yn gofyn am gryfder, amynedd a chalon. Ond ddylai neb orfod ymdopi â hynny ar ei ben ei hun. Diolch i’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr, mae mwy o famau ledled Cymru yn cael rhywfaint o amser iddyn nhw eu hunain.

Mother’s Day: Finding Rest, Strength and Connection Through the Short Breaks Scheme

“The biggest thing I am learning is to give myself permission to recharge and deal with the mum guilt.”

Mother’s Day is a moment to recognise the women across Wales who give so much of themselves every day, including the thousands of mothers, step-mums, foster mums and guardians who provide unpaid care to children, partners, parents and loved ones.

Wales has a higher percentage of unpaid carers than other parts of the UK, and many mothers struggle to even recognise themselves as carers because caring is simply woven into the fabric of motherhood.

Self-recognition

Kate Cubbage, Director, Carers Trust Wales: “Mothers can be less likely than others to recognise and identify themselves as a carer. Many are exhausted, stressed and struggling with their own well-being – both physically and mentally.”

For many, caring is an act of love, but it is also physically tiring, emotionally demanding and often isolating.

Taking its toll

Mothers often describe being ‘switched on’ around the clock, with ‘little time to breath’ - let alone to take time for self-care. Even the smallest restorative moments, like going for a walk or meeting a friend, can feel out of reach.

I didn’t realise how much I was running on empty until I finally had a chance to slow down.

Carer with Daffodils

Many mothers are juggling multiple roles - working part‑time around caring needs, managing medical appointments, coordinating with school or social care teams, and sometimes supporting older relatives and siblings too. The cumulative impact can lead to poor physical and mental health, financial strain and social isolation.

Why Short Breaks Make a Difference

That’s why the Short Breaks Scheme, funded by Welsh Government and coordinated by Carers Trust Wales, is so important. The scheme offers unpaid carers the chance to take personalised, meaningful breaks that fit around their lives - and for many mothers, these moments of rest and connection can be really transformative.

I came feeling exhausted and worn out… and I left feeling the opposite.

Carer with InclusAbility

The Short Breaks Scheme gives mothers permission to prioritise themselves - often for the first time in years. A break doesn’t have to mean a weekend away; it can be something small but meaningful: a wellbeing voucher, a few hours in a favourite place, or a gentle group activity.

The holistic therapies really do make a difference! I come away feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Carer with Techtivity

Permission to take a break

“Mum guilt” is a familiar feeling for many mothers, but for those who are carers, it can be compounded by worry - worry about leaving their child, worry about whether things will “go wrong”, or whether they are allowed to step back at all.

A short break can soften that inner voice. And when they do take time out, the benefits ripple outward.

One parent captured this perfectly after taking part in a Campfire Cymru break:

“The biggest thing I am learning is to give myself permission to recharge and deal with the mum guilt.”

Parent carers frequently report feeling less anxious, more optimistic, and better equipped to cope when they return home.

Calm and relaxing… I had time to think about situations at home and clear my mind of some worries.

Carers with The Behaviour Support Hub

“I felt less isolated… sometimes you just need a break to be able to see the way ahead.” Carer with All Wales Forum

Time for yourself

For mothers whose days are shaped by the demands of health conditions, therapies, behavioural challenges, or complex care routines, having something that is just for them can feel profound. It restores a sense of identity - not separate from their caring role, but alongside it.

It meant some peace and me time… I feel more ready to go back to my caring role.

Carer with Neath Port Talbot Carers Service

Return refreshed

The Short Breaks Scheme acknowledges the emotional labour, the continuous vigilance, and the love that sits behind the caring role. It offers mothers the chance to rest without guilt, rebuild resilience, and return to their families feeling steadier, lighter and more supported.

Being a mother and a carer is a role that demands strength, patience, and heart. But no one should be expected to sustain that alone. And thanks to the Short Breaks Scheme, more mothers across Wales are finding a little time for themselves.

Mae Wythnos Cydraddoldeb Hil yn gyfle i ni wrando ac i fyfyrio. Ledled y DU, mae'n annog sefydliadau, cymunedau ac unigolion i ystyried sut rydyn ni’n adeiladu cymdeithas lle mae pawb yn teimlo eu bod yn perthyn, yn cael eu gweld, eu gwerthfawrogi a'u cefnogi'n gyfartal. Mae'n fudiad byd-eang blynyddol i sbarduno ac adnewyddu gobaith ac ysbrydoli cynnydd. Y thema eleni yw #ChangeNeedsAllOfUs, ac mae’n cael ei gynnal rhwng 2 a 8 Chwefror.

I ofalwyr o gefndiroedd ethnig lleiafrifol, gall hiliaeth, ynysu cymdeithasol a rhwystrau rhag cael mynediad at wasanaethau prif ffrwd waethygu'r pwysau gofalu. Dyna pam mae cynhwysiant, tegwch a hygyrchedd wrth galon y Cynllun Seibiant Byr – nid yn unig yn ystod Wythnos Cydraddoldeb Hil, ond drwy gydol y flwyddyn.

Cynllunio rhaglen gynhwysol

Mae'r Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn bodoli i sicrhau bod gofalwyr di-dâl yn gallu cael seibiant ystyrlon mewn ffordd sy'n gweithio iddyn nhw. Mae hyn yn golygu cydnabod nad yw un ateb yn addas i bawb. Daw gofalwyr o bob cefndir, diwylliant a chymuned, ac mae'r angen am seibiant, cysylltiad a chydnabyddiaeth yn berthnasol i bob hunaniaeth.

Yng Nghymru, mae 6% o ofalwyr yn ystyried eu hunain yn rhan o gymuned ethnig leiafrifol (Cyfrifiad 2021). Yn ystod chwe mis cyntaf y Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn 2025/26, nododd 13% o ofalwyr a gafodd gymorth drwyddo eu bod yn ystyried eu hunain yn rhan o gefndir ethnig leiafrifol, gan adlewyrchu ffocws y cynllun ar gyrraedd gofalwyr a allai fel arall gael eu hanwybyddu.

Mynd i'r afael â rhwystrau drwy bartneriaethau dibynadwy

Gall rhwystrau sy'n gysylltiedig â hil ac ethnigrwydd, gan gynnwys iaith, disgwyliadau diwylliannol o ran gofalu, profiadau o wahaniaethu a diffyg ymddiriedaeth mewn systemau statudol, i gyd effeithio ar allu gofalwyr i ofyn am gymorth. Os yw rhaglen yn wirioneddol gynhwysol, rhaid iddi fynd ati i fynd i'r afael â'r rhwystrau hyn.

Dyna pam mae’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn gweithio drwy rwydwaith amrywiol o ddarparwyr dibynadwy ledled Cymru. Mae’r sefydliadau hyn wedi’u gwreiddio yn eu cymunedau, yn deall cyd-destunau diwylliannol lleol, ac mewn sefyllfa dda i ymateb i brofiadau bywyd gofalwyr.

Mae themâu Wythnos Cydraddoldeb Hiliol, sef cynrychiolaeth, perthyn, cynghreiriaeth a gweithredu, yn cyd-fynd yn agos â’r dull gweithredu hwn. Mae cynhwysiant yn golygu bod y rheiny y mae arnynt angen y gwasanaeth wedi helpu i lywio, i gyflawni ac i hyrwyddo’r gwasanaeth hwnnw.

Isod ceir tair enghraifft o sut beth yw ymarfer cynhwysol ar waith yn y Cynllun Seibiant Byr.

Cyrraedd gofalwyr lle maen nhw: Canolfan Gofalwyr Abertawe

Drwy'r Cynllun Seibiant Byr, mae Canolfan Gofalwyr Abertawe yn dangos dealltwriaeth ddofn y gall cyfrifoldebau gofalu edrych yn wahanol iawn ar draws diwylliannau, a bod yn rhaid i'r cymorth hwnnw fod yn hyblyg, yn barchus ac yn ymatebol.

Mae cynhwysiant wrth galon y gwaith hwn. Mae gofalwyr o gymunedau ethnig lleiafrifol wedi cael cymorth i gael mynediad at weithgareddau y gwnaethant gais amdanynt eu hunain, gan gynnwys taith grŵp o bwysigrwydd diwylliannol i Alum Rock yn Birmingham. Roedd y daith hon yn rhoi cyfle i ofalwyr siopa ar gyfer Ramadan ac Eid, gan ddarparu diwrnod di-straen i ffwrdd o'u rolau gofalu.

Dywedodd un o’r gofalwyr, “Diolch am ddiwrnod i’r brenin. Alla i ddim gyrru, felly braf iawn oedd cael mynd ar y daith yma.”

Mae'r Cynllun hefyd wedi cefnogi dathliad Blwyddyn Newydd Tsieineaidd ar gyfer grŵp dementia Llansamlet, gan roi cyfle i ofalwyr gysylltu â'u treftadaeth ddiwylliannol mewn man cefnogol a rennir. Mae hyn yn adlewyrchu pwyslais Wythnos Cydraddoldeb Hiliol ar gynrychiolaeth, gan sicrhau bod gofalwyr yn gweld eu hunaniaeth a’u profiadau’n cael eu hadlewyrchu yn y gefnogaeth a gânt.

Cynghreiriaeth ar waith: Race Equality First

Mae Race Equality First sy’n arbenigwyr ar fynd i’r afael â gwahaniaethu a chefnogi pobl o gymunedau ethnig lleiafrifol, yn helpu i graffu’n fanwl ar gydraddoldeb hil.

Mae Race Equality First wedi cefnogi gofalwyr di-dâl i gael seibiannau a allai fel arall deimlo allan o’u cyrraedd - yn cynnwys teithiau i ffwrdd a gweithgareddau cymunedol a chyfleoedd syml i dreulio amser o safon gyda theulu a ffrindiau.

Disgrifiwyd y galw am y cymorth hwn fel “rhyfeddol”, gyda gofalwyr yn mynegi’r rhyddhad o allu gwneud rhywbeth gwahanol neu fforddiadwy am y tro cyntaf. Mae gweithgareddau grŵp wedi bod yn arbennig o boblogaidd, gan adlewyrchu gwerthoedd diwylliannol sy'n ymwneud â phrofiadau a rennir a chyd-gefnogaeth. Fel mae Race Equality First yn egluro, mae treulio amser gyda’i gilydd fel cymuned yn rhoi cyfle i ofalwyr “helpu ei gilydd gyda’u cyfrifoldebau gofalu” wrth gamu i ffwrdd oddi wrth bwysau dyddiol.

Fe wnaeth un gofalwr gyfleu’r effaith yn bwerus, gan ddisgrifio ei seibiant fel cyfle i “gael fy nghefn ataf, adfywiogi a bwrw golwg ar ” ei rôl gofalu.

Mae’r gwaith hwn yn cysylltu’n uniongyrchol â ffocws Wythnos Cydraddoldeb Hiliol ar gynghreiriaeth a gweithredu – mynd i’r afael ag anghydraddoldeb drwy gefnogaeth ymarferol wedi’i harwain gan y gymuned.

Cynhwysiant ar draws cenedlaethau, diwylliannau a ffydd: Age Connects Torfaen

Mae Age Connects Torfaen yn dangos sut gall arferion cynhwysol bontio diwylliannau, cenedlaethau a chymunedau ffydd. Mae eu sesiwn maldod ar gyfer menywod sy'n ofalwyr Mwslimaidd yn dangos sut gall dyluniad sy'n seiliedig ar ddiwylliant drawsnewid seibiant byr yn rhywbeth ystyrlon iawn.

Cafodd y sesiwn ei chreu gyda ffydd, preifatrwydd a chysur gofalwyr mewn golwg, gan ddefnyddio cynhyrchion sy’n ystyriol o reolau halal, gofod preifat a mynediad at gyfleusterau gweddïo. I lawer o gyfranogwyr, dyma'r tro cyntaf iddynt gael triniaeth maldod. Dywedodd un gofalwr fod tylino ei phen wedi helpu i ryddhau straen yr oedd wedi cadw i mewn dros flynyddoedd o ofalu, ac roedd y profiad wedi ei gadael yn ei dagrau.

Drwy'r Cynllun Seibiant Byr, mae Age Connects Torfaen yn cefnogi gofalwyr mewn ffyrdd sy'n parchu disgwyliadau diwylliannol o ran heneiddio, rolau teuluol a chyfrifoldeb cymunedol – gan helpu i sicrhau bod seibiannau'n briodol, yn urddasol ac yn cyfoethogi. Mae hyn yn adlewyrchu thema perthyn Wythnos Cydraddoldeb Hiliol, sy’n dangos bod gofalwyr yn fwy tebygol o ymgysylltu pan fydd cymorth yn adlewyrchu pwy ydyn nhw.

Edrych i’r dyfodol

Mae Wythnos Cydraddoldeb Hiliol yn ein hatgoffa bod cynhwysiant yn gofyn am ddysgu a gwrando parhaus. Ar gyfer y Cynllun Seibiant Byr, mae'n atgyfnerthu pwysigrwydd gweithio mewn partneriaeth â sefydliadau y mae eu cymunedau'n ymddiried ynddynt ac sydd wedi ymrwymo i gydraddoldeb yn ymarferol, nid mewn egwyddor yn unig.

Wrth i ni ddathlu Wythnos Cydraddoldeb Hiliol, mae'r Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn parhau i fod yn ymrwymedig i'r canlynol:

Cefnogi darparwyr i gyrraedd cymunedau sy'n cael eu tangynrychioli
Dysgu o brofiad bywyd i wella hygyrchedd
Herio rhwystrau sy'n atal gofalwyr rhag cymryd y seibiant maen nhw'n ei haeddu

Ledled Cymru, mae ein darparwyr yn parhau i gael gwared ar rwystrau, meithrin ymddiriedaeth a chreu lle i orffwys a chysylltu. Diolch i'r holl sefydliadau hynny sy'n helpu i sicrhau bod gofalwyr o bob cefndir yn teimlo eu bod yn cael eu gweld, eu parchu a'u cefnogi.

Race Equality, Inclusion and the Right to a Break

Race Equality Matters Week is a moment to listen and reflect. Across the UK, it encourages organisations, communities and individuals to consider how we build a society where everyone feels they belong, where people are seen, valued and supported equally. It is an annual global movement to spark and renew hope, inspire progress and takes place this year 2-8 February under the theme of #ChangeNeedsAllOfUs

For carers from minoritised ethnic backgrounds, the pressures of caring can be compounded by racism, social isolation and barriers to accessing mainstream services. That is why inclusion, fairness and accessibility sit at the heart of the Short Breaks Scheme - not just during Race Equality Week, but throughout the year.

An inclusive programme by design

The Short Breaks Scheme exists to ensure unpaid carers can access meaningful breaks in ways that work for them. This means recognising that one size does not fit all. Carers come from every background, culture and community, and the need for rest, connection and recognition cuts across all identities.

In Wales, 6% of carers identify as being part of an ethnic minority community (2021 Census). In the first six months of the Short Breaks Scheme in 2025/26, 13% of carers supported through it identified as coming from an ethnic minority background, reflecting the scheme’s focus on reaching carers who may otherwise be overlooked.

Addressing barriers through trusted partnerships

Barriers linked to race and ethnicity, including language, cultural expectations around caring, experiences of discrimination and lack of trust in statutory systems, can all affect whether carers feel able to seek support. If a programme is truly inclusive, it must actively address these barriers.

That’s why the Short Breaks Scheme works through a diverse network of trusted delivery providers across Wales. These organisations are rooted in their communities, understand local cultural contexts, and are well placed to respond to carers’ lived experiences.

Race Equality Week’s themes of representation, belonging, allyship and action closely align with this approach. Inclusion is not just about who a service is for, but who helps shape it, deliver it and champion it.

Below are three examples of what inclusive practice looks like in action in the Short Breaks Scheme.

Reaching carers where they are: Swansea Carers Centre

Through the Short Breaks Scheme, Swansea Carers Centre demonstrates a deep understanding that caring responsibilities can look very different across cultures, and that support must be flexible, respectful and responsive.

Inclusivity is a clear focus of this work. Carers from minoritised ethnic communities have been supported to access activities they requested themselves, including a culturally significant group trip to Alum Rock in Birmingham. The trip enabled carers to shop for Ramadan and Eid, offering a stress‑free day away from their caring roles.

One carer shared, “Thank you for a wonderful day out. I can’t drive, so this trip was a rare treat.”

The scheme has also supported a Chinese New Year celebration for the Llansamlet dementia group, allowing carers to connect with their cultural heritage in a shared, supportive space. This reflects Race Equality Week’s emphasis on representation, ensuring carers see their identities and experiences reflected in the support they receive.

Allyship in action: Race Equality First

Race Equality First brings a vital race‑equality lens to the Short Breaks Scheme through its expertise in tackling discrimination and supporting people from minoritised ethnic communities.

Race Equality First has supported unpaid carers to access breaks that might otherwise feel out of reach - from trips away and community activities to simple opportunities to spend quality time with family and friends.

Demand for this support has been described as “phenomenal”, with carers expressing relief at being able to do something different or affordable for the first time. Group activities have been especially popular, reflecting cultural values around shared experiences and mutual support. As Race Equality First explain, spending time together as a community allows carers to “help each other with their caring responsibilities” while stepping away from daily pressures.

One carer captured the impact powerfully, describing their break as a chance to “recharge, rejuvenate and recalibrate” their caring role.

This work speaks directly to Race Equality Week’s focus on allyship and action, addressing inequality through practical, community‑led support.

Inclusion across generations, cultures and faith: Age Connects Torfaen

Age Connects Torfaen demonstrates how inclusive practice can bridge cultures, generations and faith communities. Their pamper session for female Muslim carers shows how culturally informed design can transform a short break into something deeply meaningful.

The session was created with carers’ faith, privacy and comfort in mind, using halal‑friendly products, a private space and access to prayer facilities. For many participants, this was the first time they had ever experienced a pamper treatment. One carer shared that a head massage helped release stress she had “bottled up” through years of caring, leaving her in tears.

Through the Short Breaks Scheme, Age Connects Torfaen supports carers in ways that respect cultural expectations around ageing, family roles and community responsibility - helping ensure breaks are appropriate, dignified and enriching. This reflects Race Equality Week’s theme of belonging, showing that carers are more likely to engage when support reflects who they are.

Looking ahead

Race Equality Week is a reminder that inclusion requires ongoing learning and listening. For the Short Breaks Scheme, it reinforces the importance of working in partnership with organisations that are trusted by their communities and committed to equality in practice, not just in principle.

As we mark Race Equality Week, the Short Breaks Scheme remains committed to:

Supporting delivery providers to reach underrepresented groups
Learning from lived experience to improve accessibility
Challenging barriers that prevent carers from taking the breaks they deserve.

Across Wales, our delivery providers continue to remove barriers, build trust and create space for rest and connection. Thank you to all those organisations helping ensure carers from all backgrounds feel seen, respected and supported.

I nifer, gyda’r nos oedd yr unig amser y byddai egwyl yn bosibl.

Boed hynny mewn gweithdy creadigol, pryd o fwyd, penwythnos i ffwrdd neu amser tawel gydag eraill sy’n deall, mae’r Seibiannau Byr hyn yn cynnig rhywbeth nad yw gofalwyr yn ei gael yn aml: amser iddyn nhw eu hunain.

Interlink RCT, in collaboration with Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil, is running a project to ensure carers in some of the most deprived areas of Wales can access the Short Breaks Scheme.

Through this project, ten community organisations across Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil have been funded to deliver a powerful programme of short breaks that offer carers a much‑needed moment to breathe. During the first four months, 436 carers and 228 cared‑for individuals have taken part in activities designed to give them rest, connection and moments of joy.

The breaks ranged from creative workshops and wellbeing sessions to overnight stays and festive events, all crafted to support the emotional, social and physical wellbeing of carers.

Creative and Wellbeing Workshops

Many projects centred their short breaks around art, gentle creativity, relaxation therapies and opportunities to unwind.

Stephens and George Charitable Trust delivered mosaic‑making, printmaking, reflexology and aromatherapy, as well as a Halloween afternoon tea. Carers spoke of feeling the weight lift during sessions designed purely for them:

One male carer shared:

It was great to meet other male carers. I realised I’m not the only one feeling like this.
A Transformative Three‑Day Break

For some carers, the first meaningful break in years came through Gelli Life for Living’s supported three‑day stay at Butlins. Carers described the weekend as life‑changing:

“For a few days, I could be just me – not a carer. I didn’t realise how burnt out I was until I had the space to breathe.”

For others, simply being away from home with peers who understood their situation brought relief, solidarity, and renewed energy to return to their caring roles.

Nature‑Focused Creative Sessions

Growing Spaces created gentle, grounding activities - nature crafts, recycled‑materials art sessions, and creative workshops that helped carers reset and build confidence.

One carer shared:

The activity was a wonderful experience to distract my mind from sad events… I had fun and really enjoyed it.

For young carers, creative transition workshops provided a rare space to express themselves, develop skills, and connect with others facing similar challenges.

Meals, Massage and Moments Together

Age Connects Morgannwg offered a dual approach: shared meals for carers and their loved ones, and one‑to‑one wellbeing treatments just for the carers.

One carer, aged in his 80s, described the impact of attending lunch with his wife and familiar peers: “It makes such a difference when we all meet up together… We seize any opportunity like this because we can support each other.”

The simple pleasure of food, company and understanding made a meaningful difference.

A Weekly Lifeline for Male Carers

The ARC Project provided 22 sessions of “The Thursday Afternoon Club,” giving male carers a safe, social, structured environment with activities ranging from cooking to music.

Participants described it as essential:

This is a lifeline for both of us.

Yesterday I felt so alone—thank you for being there with the tea and for listening.

Carers were also supported through personalised care planning, connection to services, and emotional guidance, demonstrating how short breaks can extend far beyond the session itself.

Creative Confidence and Community Building

Through low‑pressure art and craft workshops, Neurobusiness supported neurodiverse carers and those caring for neurodiverse people. The sessions were small, calm and flexible, designed to meet people where they were.

“It helped me feel recharged and gave me something to look forward to.”

Some carers even became volunteers, gaining renewed purpose and contribution.

Coffee Mornings, Cinema Nights and Social Spaces

The Gellideg Foundation Group offered afternoon teas, pamper sessions, cinema nights and socials, with powerful emotional benefits for carers and cared‑for individuals.

One carer supporting her adult daughter after a stroke shared:

“I hadn’t seen my daughter look so happy in a long time… It made me so happy to see her smiling.”

Residential Rest for Parent Carers

Behaviour Support Hub offered overnight respite, chocolate‑making workshops, a murder mystery night and festive crafts to parents caring for children with ALN, ASD and ADHD.

The impact was profound:

I was burnt out, anxious and terrified… This break reminded me I matter.

One parent described feeling “renewed” and able to continue being the advocate their children need.

Evening Breaks for Busy Carers

Finally, Cwm Taf People First delivered evening outings, a mini‑festival and Christmas party, giving carers time off when they needed it most.

As one carer put it:

“Without this service, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to have a short break from the caring role, especially when working full time.”

For many, evenings were the only time a break was possible.

A Lasting Impact

Across Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil, small but powerful spaces were created, where carers could breathe, laugh, connect and simply be themselves. Whether through a creative workshop, a shared meal, a weekend away or a quiet moment with others who understand, these Short Breaks provided something carers rarely receive: time for themselves.

	Lles ym mryniau Cymru

Diolch i gyllid gan y Cynllun Seibiant Byr, mae Interlink Rhondda Cynon Taf wedi gallu cefnogi deg o sefydliadau ar lawr gwlad ledled Merthyr Tudful a Rhondda Cynon Taf. Yn eu plith mae'r Behaviour Support Hub – tîm angerddol o rieni sy'n helpu cyd-rieni a gofalwyr plant niwrowahanol. Drwy'r cynllun, aethant ati i drefnu seibiant gwirioneddol arbennig, a dyma nhw i rannu’r hanes...

Ddiwedd mis Medi, cafodd grŵp o rieni sy'n ofalwyr gyfle i gael seibiant heddychlon ym Mythynnod Vale Farm yn Aberhonddu.

Roedd yn gyfle i gamu i ffwrdd oddi wrth bwysau gofalu bob dydd, i arafu, ymlacio, a chanolbwyntio'n llwyr arnyn nhw eu hunain. Roedd bryniau Cymru, yr awyr iach, a’r ehangder o’u cwmpas yn golygu mai dyma’r lle perffaith i orffwys, chwerthin, a bod.

Roedd y bythynnod, sy’n nythu yn y bryniau, yn lle perffaith i anadlu. Yng nghanol cân yr adar a’r awyr iach, gallai rhieni sy'n ofalwyr arafu, ystwytho, a mwynhau eu hamser eu hunain. Aeth rhai am dro hamddenol, eraill i'r twba twym, tra bu’r lleill yn swatio gyda phaned, â’r byd yn aros yn amyneddgar y tu allan.

Un o uchafbwyntiau'r penwythnos oedd sesiwn aromatherapi mewn grŵp. Dysgodd y rhieni sy’n ofalwyr sut y gall gwahanol olewau helpu gyda lles, o dawelu gorbryder i roi hwb i’r egni, a chreodd pob un ohonynt eu cyfuniad personol eu hunain o olewau i’w gadw. Roedd yn ffordd hyfryd o'u hatgoffa bod yr hunanofal symlaf yn gallu gwneud gwahaniaeth go iawn.

Bu’r grŵp yn cymryd rhan mewn sesiwn gwneud pitsas, yn helpu i baratoi prydau ar gyfer y grŵp, fel tatws trwy'u crwyn, ac yn mwynhau nosweithiau llawn chwerthin a rhannu straeon. Rhwng y bwyd, y sgyrsiau, a'r ymlacio yn y twba twym o dan awyr fawr y Bannau, roedd cydbwysedd gwych o orffwys, creu cysylltiadau, a gwneud gwaith ymchwil pwysig iawn ar ba mor hir y gallwch aros yn y twba twym heb i’ch croen grebachu’n ddim.

Dyma bytiau o’r hyn y bu’r rhieni sy'n ofalwyr yn ei ddweud am y profiad.

Beth oedd eich hoff ran chi o'r penwythnos?

'Alla i ddim dewis dim ond un: y chwerthin, y cwtsho, y cysylltiadau, y niwl ar y mynyddoedd, bod ben i waered ar y siglen. Mae pob un o’r adegau hyn yn dod ynghyd i greu atgof eithriadol o hardd.’

Sut deimlad oedd cael amser i chi’ch hun?

‘Tawel braf; cefais amser i feddwl am sefyllfaoedd gartref, a thawelu ambell bryder oedd ar fy meddwl. Hefyd, roedd y cyngor gan y rhieni eraill yn gwneud i mi deimlo nad oeddwn i ar fy mhen fy hun nac yn colli fy mhwyll.’

Wnaethoch chi chwerthin neu wenu mwy nag arfer? Pam?

'Cymaint o resymau: awyr iach – awyr iach a glân, a dweud y gwir – mannau gwyrdd a mannau glas. Siarad am bethau oedd yn gyffredin rhyngon ni, profiadau roedden ni i gyd wedi’u cael, a gallu gweld yr hiwmor yng nghanol y pethau anodd.’

Pa un oedd eich hoff ffordd o ymlacio?

‘Eistedd yn dawel. Cau fy llygaid. Eistedd wrth y tân. Roeddwn i wrth fy modd hefyd â'r myfyrio dan arweiniad a wnaethon ni.’

Pa un peth o'r penwythnos fyddwch chi’n ei gofio a’i gadw?

'Ffrindiau, strategaethau newydd, ffyrdd o ymdopi, a gwybod bod arnaf angen amser i fi fy hun.'

Diolch!’

Roedd yn benwythnos llawn pleserau syml, adegau tawel, a digon o chwerthin. Roedd yn gyfle i atgoffa pawb nad peth hunanol yw gofalu amdanoch chi eich hun; mae'n hanfodol. Mae rhieni sy'n ofalwyr yn rhoi cymaint i'w teuluoedd a'u cymunedau fel eu bod yn aml yn anghofio rhoi rhywbeth iddyn nhw eu hunain. Roedd yr encil hwn yn ysgogiad i oedi, ymlacio, a threulio ychydig oriau yn gwneud dim byd heb deimlo'r mymryn lleiaf o euogrwydd.

Rydyn ni mor ddiolchgar i'r Cynllun Seibiant Byr am wneud hyn yn bosibl. Cafodd rhieni sy’n ofalwyr gyfle i gael gorffwys a chreu cysylltiadau ag eraill, gan ddychwelyd adref yn teimlo'n ysgafnach, yn dawelach, ac wedi'u hadfywio.

Gwybodaeth am y Behaviour Support Hub

Yn y Behaviour Support Hub, rydyn ni'n gwybod bod teuluoedd a chymunedau'n ffynnu pan fydd y rhieni sy’n ofalwyr yn iach eu hunain. Dyna pam rydyn ni'n cynnig cymorth, adnoddau, a gwasanaethau lles yn benodol i rieni sy'n ofalwyr, gan eu helpu i deimlo eu bod yn cael eu gwerthfawrogi a’u cefnogi a'u bod yn gallu dal ati'n gryf.

	Wellbeing in the Welsh hills

Thanks to funding from the Short Breaks Scheme, Interlink RCT has been able to support ten grassroots organisations across Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf. Among them is The Behaviour Support Hub, a passionate team of parents helping fellow parents and carers of neurodivergent children. Through the scheme, they organised a truly special break, which they share with us here…..

In late September, a group of parent carers enjoyed a peaceful break at Vale Farm Cottages in Brecon.

It was a chance to step away from the everyday pressures of caring, to slow down, relax, and focus entirely on themselves. The Welsh hills, fresh air, and wide-open skies made it the perfect place to rest, laugh, and simply be.

The cottages tucked into the rolling hills were a perfect place to breathe. With birdsong and fresh air, parent carers could slow down, stretch out, and enjoy time that was truly their own. Some went for gentle walks, others soaked in the hot tub, and a few simply curled up with a cup of tea while the world waited patiently outside.

One of the highlights of the weekend was a group aromatherapy session. Parent carers learned how different oils can help with wellbeing, from calming anxiety to lifting energy, and each created their own personal blend to take home. It was a lovely reminder that small acts of self-care can make a real difference.

The group took part in a pizza-making session, helped prepare meals for the group like jacket potatoes, and enjoyed evenings filled with laughter and shared stories. Between the food, the conversations, and relaxing in the hot tub under the wide Welsh skies, there was a wonderful balance of rest, connection, and doing very important research on how long you can stay in the hot tub without turning into a prune.

Here is what some of our parent carers shared about the experience.

What was your favourite moment of the weekend?

‘I can’t pick one, the laughter, the cwtches, the connections, the mist on the mountains, being upside down on the swing. Every moment intertwines to make a breathtakingly beautiful memory.’

How did it feel to have time just for yourself?

‘Calm and relaxing, I had time to think about situations at home, and clear my mind of some worries. The advice from the other parents also made me feel that I wasn’t on my own or going mad.‘

Did you laugh or smile more than usual? What made you laugh?

‘So many things, fresh air, fresh clean air, come to that, green space, blue space. Talking about things in common, shared experiences, and being able to find humour in our hardship.’

What was your favourite way to relax or unwind?

‘Sitting in the quiet. Closing my eyes. Sitting by the fire. Also loved the guided meditation we did.’

What is one thing from this weekend you will take home with you?

‘Friends, new strategies, coping mechanisms, and knowing I need time to myself.’

If you could describe the weekend in one word, what would it be?

‘No I can’t, not in one word. I have a few: connection, cwtch, peace, breathe, laughter, understanding, renewing and stunning. Thank you!’

It was a weekend of simple joys, calm moments, and plenty of laughter. It reminded everyone that taking care of yourself is not selfish; it is essential. Parent carers give so much to their families and communities that they often forget to give to themselves. This retreat was a gentle nudge to pause, unwind, and maybe even spend a few hours doing absolutely nothing without feeling the slightest bit guilty.

We are so grateful to the Short Breaks Scheme for making this possible. It gave parent carers the gift of rest, connection, and a chance to return home feeling lighter, calmer, and re-energised.

About The Behaviour Support Hub

At The Behaviour Support Hub, we know that when parent carers are well, families and communities thrive. That is why we offer support, resources, and wellbeing services specifically for parent carers, helping them feel valued, supported, and able to keep going strong.

Sut mae gofalwyr yn cael cymorth gan gymheiriaid drwy'r Cynllun Seibiannau Byr

Ar 30 Gorffennaf, mae'r byd yn dathlu Diwrnod Rhyngwladol Cyfeillgarwch - diwrnod sy'n cydnabod bod cysylltiad rhwng pobl yn bwerus. I ofalwyr di-dâl ledled Cymru, gall cyfeillgarwch a grwpiau cyfoedion gynnig achubiaeth hanfodol.

Gall gofalu am anwylyd fod yn un o'r rolau mwyaf gwerth chweil mewn bywyd, ond gall hefyd fod yn un o'r rhai mwyaf ynysig. Mae gofalwyr di-dâl yn neilltuo eu hamser i gefnogi aelodau o'r teulu ac anwyliaid, yn aml heb fawr o amser iddyn nhw eu hunain. Dyna pam fod y Cynllun Seibiannau Byr, a reolir gan Ymddiriedolaeth Gofalwyr Cymru ac a ariennir gan Lywodraeth Cymru, yn fwy na chyfle i gymryd seibiant yn unig - mae'n borth at gysylltiad, dealltwriaeth a chyfeillgarwch parhaol.

"Roedd rhannu straeon, chwerthin, ac eiliadau o ddealltwriaeth gydag unigolion mewn sefyllfa debyg yn cynnig cysur ac yn codi calon. Mae'n fy atgoffa nad ydw i ar fy mhen fy hun yn y sefyllfa yma." Gofalwr a gefnogir drwy'r Cynllun Seibiannau Byr gan Interlink RhCT.

Mwy na seibiant: achubiaeth drwy gefnogaeth cyfoedion

Er mai prif nod y Cynllun Seibiannau Byr yw rhoi seibiant mawr ei angen i ofalwyr o'u cyfrifoldebau, un o'i fanteision mwyaf pwerus ac a anwybyddir yn aml yw'r gefnogaeth sy’n datblygu gan gymheiriaid. Pan fydd gofalwyr yn dod at ei gilydd - boed ar gyfer seibiant grŵp, gweithdy creadigol, neu i rannu gweithgaredd - nid cymryd amser i ffwrdd yn unig y maen nhw. Maen nhw'n camu i le diogel, lle mae eraill yn eu deall.

Meddai Nicola, a fu am wythnos o seibiant drwy'r cynllun gyda'r elusen 'Follow your Dreams':

Roeddwn i'n teimlo cefnogaeth gan y rhwydwaith ehangach o ofalwyr a oedd yn deall heb orfod dweud gair.

Mae rhannu profiadau yn creu cyfleoedd naturiol i ofalwyr gysylltu ag eraill sy'n wirioneddol "ddeall" eu sefyllfa. Does dim angen esbonio'r holl deimladau emosiynol a'r blinder, na'r balchder tawel, sy'n dod law yn llaw â gofalu, oherwydd mae pawb yn yr ystafell wedi bod drwy’r un profiad.

"Roeddwn i'n teimlo'n ynysig iawn ac fel petai neb rwy'n ei adnabod yn deall beth rydw i'n mynd drwyddo. Rydw i mor falch fy mod wedi dod o hyd i'r grŵp gwych yma, mae'n fwy o help na fy sesiynau cwnsela."

- Gofalwr a gefnogir drwy'r Cynllun Seibiannau Byr gan Campfire Cymru.

Mae'r cysylltiadau hyn yn aml yn ymestyn ymhell y tu hwnt i'r seibiannau eu hunain, gan ddatblygu’n rhwydweithiau cymorth sy'n cynnig anogaeth, cyngor a chwmnïaeth ymhell ar ôl i'r digwyddiad ddod i ben.

"Fe wnes i ffrindiau newydd sy'n parhau i fy nghefnogi ac y galla i droi atyn nhw pan fydd angen ysgwydd i bwyso arni. Rwy'n poeni am ddyfodol fy mab a minnau, ond mae’r ffaith fod yna bobl i siarad â nhw ac o bosibl mwy o deithiau i edrych ymlaen atyn nhw, yn rhoi gobaith i mi am fwy o hwyl a chwerthin."

- Gofalwr a gefnogir drwy'r Cynllun Seibiannau Byr gan DAFFODILS.

I rai, dyma'r tro cyntaf iddyn nhw gyfarfod rhywun mewn sefyllfa debyg. I eraill, mae'n gyfle i chwerthin, crio a rhannu straeon heb farnu. Gall y cysylltiadau hyn fod yn drawsnewidiol, gan helpu gofalwyr i deimlo'n llai unig ac yn fwy grymus yn eu rolau.

Cynhaliodd Headway Caerdydd a De-ddwyrain Cymru chwe grŵp 'Teulu a Ffrindiau' misol i roi cyfle i ofalwyr gyfarfod a ffurfio cyfeillgarwch ag eraill sydd wedi bod trwy brofiadau tebyg, ac i elwa o fod yn rhan o gymuned nad yw’n barnu, sy’n gydymdeimladol a chefnogol.

"Mae nosweithiau Teulu a Ffrindiau Headway wedi bod mor werthfawr i mi. Drwy’r rhain rydw i wedi cyfarfod rhywun arall sydd â phartner sydd wedi cael ei effeithio yn yr un modd gan ei anaf i'r ymennydd ac sydd wedi rhannu'r un profiadau. Mae hyn wedi bod o gymorth mawr i mi wrth geisio ymdopi."

- Gofalwr a gefnogir drwy'r Cynllun Seibiannau Byr gan Headway.

Yr effaith ehangach ar les

Mae effaith cymorth gan gymheiriaid ar les gofalwyr yn sylweddol. Mae astudiaethau’n dangos yn gyson bod cysylltiad cymdeithasol yn ffactor allweddol i leihau straen, gorbryder ac iselder. I ofalwyr, sydd mewn mwy o berygl o heriau iechyd meddwl oherwydd gofynion eu rôl, gall y math hwn o gefnogaeth newid bywyd.

"Mae bod yng nghwmni gofalwyr o'r un anian yn help fy iechyd meddwl. Mae gwybod bod gennym fynediad at raglen mor dda a threfnus o seibiannau byr wedi bod yn werthfawr. Dydw i ddim yn teimlo'n ynysig ond yn rhan o deulu gwych!" - Gofalwr a gefnogir drwy'r cynllun gan DAFFODILS.

Trwy greu mannau lle gall gofalwyr gyfarfod, siarad a meithrin perthnasoedd, mae'r Cynllun Seibiannau Byr yn cyfrannu at gymuned gryfach a mwy gwydn o ofalwyr ledled Cymru. Mae mwy iddo na chymryd seibiant yn unig, mae'n ymwneud â dod yn ôl yn gryfach, gyda ffrindiau newydd ac ymdeimlad newydd o berthyn.

Rhoddodd amser i mi gyfarfod pobl eraill sydd â ffordd o fyw debyg i mi. Helpodd fi i fod yn "fi" am awr neu ddwy. Cefais gyfle i ymlacio a chael hwb o’r newydd i fynd yn ôl i fy mywyd llawn straen bob dydd.

- Gofalwr a gefnogir drwy'r cynllun gan Ganolfan Gofalwyr Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr.

Tystiolaeth o bŵer cymuned

Mae'r Cynllun Seibiannau Byr yn enghraifft wych o sut y gall cynllun ystyriol, cynhwysol wneud gwahaniaeth gwirioneddol. Trwy gydnabod pwysigrwydd cefnogaeth gan gymheiriaid, mae'r cynllun yn ychwanegu haen o werth sy'n mynd ymhell y tu hwnt i seibiannau ac ymlacio. Mae'n meithrin cymuned, yn datblygu empathi ac yn atgoffa gofalwyr nad ydyn nhw ar eu pennau eu hunain.

Oherwydd weithiau, nid amser i ffwrdd yw’r math gorau o seibiant – ond yn hytrach amser gyda'n gilydd.

How carers gain peer support through the Short Breaks Scheme

On 30 July, the world celebrates the International Day of Friendship - a day that recognises the power of human connection. For unpaid carers across Wales, friendships and peer groups can offer a vital lifeline.

Caring for a loved one can be one of the most rewarding roles in life, but it can also be one of the most isolating. Unpaid carers dedicate their time to supporting family members and loved-ones, often with little time for themselves. That’s why the Short Breaks Scheme, managed by Carers Trust Wales and funded through Welsh Government, is more than just a chance to rest - it’s a gateway to connection, understanding and lasting friendships.

Sharing stories, laughter, and moments of understanding with individuals who walk a similar path was comforting and uplifting. It reminded me that I am not alone in this journey.

-Carer supported through the Short Breaks Scheme by Interlink RCT.

More than a break - a lifeline of peer support

While the primary aim of the Short Breaks Scheme is to give carers a much-needed break from their responsibilities, one of its most powerful and often overlooked benefits is the peer support it fosters. When carers come together - whether for a group retreat, a creative workshop, or a shared activity - they’re not just taking time off. They’re stepping into a safe space, where they are understood.

Nicola, who attended a week’s break through the scheme with the charity ‘Follow your Dreams’, told us:

I felt supported by the wider network of carers who understood without having to say a word.

These shared experiences create natural opportunities for carers to connect with others who truly “get it.” There’s no need to explain the emotional rollercoaster and exhaustion, or the quiet pride, that comes with caring, because everyone in the room has lived it too.

“I was feeling really isolated and like nobody I know understands what I’m going through. I’m so pleased I have found this wonderful group and it’s helping me more than my counselling.”

- Carer supported through the Short Breaks Scheme by Campfire Cymru.

Building friendships that last

Many carers report that one of the most valuable outcomes of participating in the scheme is the friendships they form. These connections often extend far beyond the break itself, evolving into support networks that offer encouragement, advice and companionship long after the event ends.

“I made new friends who continue to support me and who I can turn to when I need a shoulder to lean on. I carry woes and worries about what the future might hold for my son and me, but having people to talk to and potentially more trips to look forward to, gives me hope for more fun and laughter.”

- Carer supported through the Short Breaks Scheme by DAFFODILS.

For some, it’s the first time they’ve met someone in a similar situation. For others, it’s a chance to laugh, cry and share stories without judgment. These bonds can be transformative, helping carers feel less alone and more empowered in their roles.

Shared experiences

Headway Cardiff and South East Wales ran six monthly ‘Family & Friends’ groups to enable carers to meet and form friendships with others who have been through similar experiences, and to benefit from being part of a non-judgemental, understanding and supportive community.

“Headway’s Family & Friends evenings have been so valuable to me. Through them I’ve met someone else whose partner has been similarly affected by his brain injury and who has shared the same experiences. This has been so helpful to me in navigating my way through things."

- Carer supported through the Short Breaks Scheme by Headway.

The wellbeing ripple effect

The impact of peer support on carers’ wellbeing is profound. Studies consistently show that social connection is a key factor in reducing stress, anxiety and depression. For carers, who are at higher risk of mental health challenges due to the demands of their role, this kind of support can be life-changing.

Being around like-minded carers really does help with my mental health. Knowing we have access to such a well-run and organised programme of short breaks has meant the world to me. I don’t feel isolated but part of a wonderful family!

- Carer supported through the scheme by DAFFODILS.

Supporting resilience

By creating spaces where carers can meet, talk and build relationships, the Short Breaks Scheme contributes to a stronger, more resilient community of carers across Wales. It’s not just about taking a break, it’s about coming back stronger, with new friends and a renewed sense of belonging.

It gave me time to meet with other people with a similar life-style as me. It helped me to be “me” for a couple of hours. I felt relaxed and re-energised to go back to my day-to-day stressful life.

- Carer supported through the scheme by Bridgend Carers Centre.

A testament to the power of community

The Short Breaks Scheme is a shining example of how thoughtful, inclusive initiatives can make a real difference. By recognising the importance of peer support, the scheme adds a layer of value that goes far beyond rest and relaxation. It nurtures community, fosters empathy and reminds carers that they are not alone.

Because sometimes, the best kind of break isn’t about time away - it’s about time together.

Mae NEWCIS yn rhoi cyfle i ofalwyr di-dâl yn Sir Ddinbych, Sir y Fflint a Wrecsam gymryd seibiannau o’u cyfrifoldebau gofalu drwy ei brosiect ‘Amser i Mi’. Mae gofalwyr wedi gallu cael seibiannau dros nos a seibiannau byr, fel mynd i’r sinema neu am bryd o fwyd gyda’r teulu, neu brofiadau diwrnod gyda Red Letter Days. Mae hefyd wedi gallu cynnig cyfle i ofalwyr aros yng nghartref gwyliau’r mudiad ym Mhrestatyn.

Seibiannau dros nos

Trefnwyd y seibiannau dros nos mewn trafodaeth â gofalwyr, a oedd wedi dewis Caer ac ardal Croesoswallt ar gyfer eu teithiau. Cafodd y ddau grŵp amser gwych, ac roedden nhw wedi elwa ar gwrdd â gofalwyr eraill a chael amser i ffwrdd o’u cyfrifoldebau gofalu 24/7. Cafodd pawb rywbeth o’r seibiannau – roedd rhai wrth eu bodd yn cael cyfle i ymlacio, ac roedd eraill wedi mwynhau cymdeithasu gyda gofalwyr eraill. Roedd un gofalydd wedi cael mwynhau ei seibiant cyntaf ers blynyddoedd lawer gyda’i gŵr. Dywedodd, “Wrth i gyflwr fy mam ddirywio, rydw i’n aml yn teimlo bod yn rhaid i mi ddewis rhwng fy mam a’m partner, ac rydw i’n poeni y gallai fy mherthynas chwalu oherwydd fy mod i wedi blino gymaint. Roedd cael seibiant wedi gwneud i mi sylweddoli faint rwy’n ei wneud bob dydd. Mae’r ddau ohonom wedi elwa o’r seibiant ac yn teimlo ein bod yn gallu ymdopi’n well â sefyllfaoedd wrth iddyn nhw godi ar ôl dychwelyd adref.”

Gofalwyr ifanc

Mae’r prosiect wedi cefnogi gofalwyr ifanc hefyd, gan ddarparu offer ar gyfer teithiau gwersylla, trefnu diwrnodau allan yn ystod gwyliau’r ysgol a chynnig grantiau bach i ofalwyr ifanc i helpu gydag offer ysgol ac anghenion gofal personol. Mae llawer o ofalwyr ifanc wedi cael seibiant o’u rôl gofalu am y tro cyntaf, ac mae’r profiad nid yn unig wedi cefnogi eu llesiant ond hefyd wedi rhoi hwb i’w hyder.

Mae cymryd seibiant pan fyddwch chi’n gofalu am rywun yn amhrisiadwy
Cyrsiau byr a thalebau

Nid yw seibiant byr o reidrwydd yn golygu aros dros nos neu ar benwythnosau, maen nhw’n gallu golygu llawer o wahanol bethau. Er enghraifft, cynigiodd NEWCIS amrywiaeth o ddosbarthiadau hobi a chyrsiau byr dros fisoedd y gaeaf, gan gynnwys pobi, coginio yn y cartref, gwaith nodwyddau a crosio, clwb llyfrau a phlannu terariwm. Maen nhw wedi galluogi gofalwyr i dreulio ychydig oriau yn gwneud rhywbeth iddyn nhw eu hunain a rhoi’r cyfle iddyn nhw roi cynnig ar bethau newydd.

Mae NEWCIS hefyd wedi defnyddio’r cyllid i roi talebau i ofalwyr eu defnyddio mewn ffordd sy’n gweddu orau i’w hanghenion. Roedd un person sy’n gofalu am ei gŵr, ac am ei mam sydd â dementia, yn ddiolchgar am y cyfle i fynd allan am bryd o fwyd. Ochr yn ochr â’i rôl ofalu, hi sy’n gyfrifol am dasgau o amgylch y tŷ ac mae hi’n gweithio. Oherwydd ei hymrwymiadau gofalu, yn ddiweddar mae wedi gorfod lleihau ei horiau yn y gwaith, sydd wedi arwain at bwysau ariannol. Ychydig iawn o amser sydd ganddi iddi hi ei hun neu gyda’r teulu, ac mae bwyta allan yn rhywbeth nad ydyn nhw’n gallu ei fforddio bellach. Roedd hi’n gwerthfawrogi’r daleb a gafodd i fynd am bryd o fwyd gyda’i gŵr, ac roedd wedi gwneud iddi deimlo ei bod yn cael ei gwerthfawrogi fel gofalydd.

Seibiant

Mae cyllid y Cynllun Seibiant Byr hefyd wedi cefnogi cynllun ‘Pontio'r Bwlch’ NEWCIS, sydd wedi ennill gwobrau. Mae hyn nid yn unig yn rhoi hyblygrwydd ynghylch y mathau o seibiannau sydd ar gael, ond mae hefyd yn cyllido gwasanaethau cymorth i ofalu am y sawl sy’n derbyn gofal gartref, gan roi tawelwch meddwl.

“Rydyn ni’n treulio amser yn sicrhau bod gan bawb bopeth sydd ei angen arnyn nhw ac yn trefnu popeth i’n gofalwyr i sicrhau eu bod nhw’n cael y seibiant maen nhw’n ei haeddu. Roedden ni’n dewis lleoliadau addas ar gyfer seibiannau mewn gwestai, gyda mynediad at sba i ymlacio. Rydyn ni hefyd yn gwneud yn siŵr bod gan ofalwyr yr holl adnoddau sydd eu hangen arnyn nhw i ofalu am eu hanwyliaid tra byddan nhw i ffwrdd, neu eu helpu i drefnu hyn drwy un o'n cynlluniau, fel y Pontio'r Bwlch.”

Rhodd amhrisiadwy

“Weithiau, y peth anoddaf yw perswadio gofalwyr bod angen iddyn nhw gymryd amser iddyn nhw eu hunain, ac i sylweddoli faint fyddai seibiant o fudd iddyn nhw a’r unigolion maen nhw’n gofalu amdanyn nhw. Mae cymryd seibiant pan fyddwch chi’n gofalu am rywun yn amhrisiadwy – mae’n golygu y gallwch chi ddychwelyd yn teimlo eich bod wedi ymlacio ac yn gallu delio’n well â’r pwysau sy’n gysylltiedig â bod yn ofalwr. Hefyd, mae’r cyfle i siarad â gofalwyr eraill, swyddogion llesiant a gweithwyr proffesiynol yn werth ychwanegol gwirioneddol i’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr.”

NEWCIS is giving unpaid carers in Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham the chance to take some time away from their caring role through its project ‘Time for Me’.

Carers have been able to access overnight breaks and micro breaks, such as trips to the cinema, meal outs with family or red letter day experiences. It has also been able to offer carers the opportunity to stay at the organisation’s holiday home in Prestatyn.

Overnight breaks

The overnight breaks were arranged in discussion with carers, who selected Chester and the Oswestry area for their trips. Both groups had a brilliant time, benefiting from meeting other carers and having time away from their 24/7 caring demands. Everyone gained something from the breaks - some loved the opportunity to simply have some relaxation time, others really enjoyed socializing with other carers.

One carer enjoyed their first break away for many years with their partner. They explain, “As my mother’s condition deteriorates, I often feel torn between my mother and partner and I worry that my relationship may break down due to me being so tired and run down. Having the break made me realise how much I do on a daily basis. We both benefitted and feel better able to cope with situations as they arise now we’re back home.”

Taking time out for yourself when you are in a caring role is priceless
Young carers

The project has supported young carers as well, providing equipment for camping trips, organising days out during school holidays and offering small grants for young carers, to help with school equipment and personal care needs. Many young carers have had a break away from their caring role for the first time, and the experience has not only supported their well-being but also boosted confidence.

Short courses and vouchers

Short breaks aren’t necessarily an overnight stay or weekend away, they come in many shapes and sizes. NEWCIS, for example, offered a range of hobby classes and short courses over the winter months, including baking, home cooking, needle work and crochet, book club and terrarium planting. They have allowed carers to take a few hours for themselves and the opportunity to explore new interests.

NEWCIS has also used the funding to supply carers with vouchers to use in a way that best suits their needs. One person who cares for their partner, and mother, who has undiagnosed dementia, was grateful for the opportunity to simply go out for a meal. Alongside their caring role, they have to manage all the household chores and work. Due to their caring commitments, recently they have had to reduce their hours, which has brought a whole new set of financial pressures. They get very little time for themselves or family fun time, and eating out is now a luxury they can’t afford. Just the opportunity to enjoy a voucher for a meal out together with their partner was overwhelming and made them feel they had been valued as a carer.

Respite

Short Breaks Scheme funding has also supported NEWCIS’s award-winning ‘Bridging the Gap’ scheme. This not only gives flexibility about the types of break but also provides for support services to look after the cared for person at home, giving peace of mind.

Claire Sullivan from NEWCIS explains, “We take the time to make sure everyone has everything they need and arrange everything for our carers to make this the break they deserve. We chose suitable venues for hotel breaks, with spa access for maximum relaxation time. We also make sure carers have all the resources they need to care for their loved ones while away, or help them arrange this through one of our schemes, such as the Bridging the Gap.

A priceless gift

“Sometimes, the hardest thing is to reassure carers that they need to take the time out for themselves and to realise how much a break will benefit both them and the loved ones they care for." Claire continues. "Taking time out for yourself when you are in a caring role is priceless – it means you can return rested and feel a little less overwhelmed with the daily pressures of being a carer."

Also, the opportunity to speak to other carers, well-being officers and professionals is a real added value of the Short Breaks Scheme.

	Grymuso Gofalwyr gyda Seibiant Hanfodol

Diolch i’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr, mae Canolfan Gofalwyr Abertawe wedi gallu helpu gofalwyr i adfywio a gwella eu llesiant, gan ddarparu amrywiaeth o weithgareddau fel aros mewn gwestai ymlaciol poblogaidd a chynnig teithiau undydd hwyliog.

Mae gofalwyr wedi mwynhau teithiau i lefydd fel Parc Oakwood, Castell Caerdydd a Marchnad Nadolig Bryste. Roedd y teithiau hyn yn gyfle i ofalwyr ymlacio a mwynhau profiadau newydd i ffwrdd o'u cyfrifoldebau dyddiol. Roedd therapïau cyfannol a thanysgrifiadau, fel aelodaeth o’r Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol, yn galluogi gofalwyr i fwynhau rhywfaint o hunanofal ac archwilio diddordebau newydd, gan gyfrannu at eu llesiant cyffredinol. Digwyddiadau cymdeithasol oedd un o uchafbwyntiau penodol y prosiect, gyda dathliadau Dydd Sant Ffolant, y Nadolig a Dydd Gŵyl Dewi yn dod â gofalwyr at ei gilydd i gymdeithasu, canu a dawnsio.

Dywedodd Emma Daniels, y Dirprwy Brif Swyddog Gweithredol, Canolfan Gofalwyr Abertawe,

Mae’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr wedi galluogi gofalwyr i ddeall yn well eu sefyllfa, i ddeall anghenion y rhai sy’n derbyn gofal, i leihau straen ac i wella eu hyder wrth ofalu.

“Mae adborth gan ofalwyr yn awgrymu’n gryf bod cael seibiant yn gallu cymell pobl i barhau â’u perthynas ofalgar a’i chynnal.” Dywedodd Emma.

Gweithio gyda’n gilydd

Roedd Canolfan Gofalwyr Abertawe wedi ymateb yn gyflym pan gododd cyfle annisgwyl diolch i’r cynnig hael gan Bistrot Pierre i roi pryd tri chwrs yn rhad ac am ddim i 25 o ofalwyr. Roedd cyllid o’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr wedi talu am y cludiant i fynd â’r gofalwyr i’r bwyty. Roedd hyn wedi rhoi cyfleoedd i ofalwyr gael cyfarfod a chreu cyfeillgarwch gyda gofalwyr eraill sydd mewn sefyllfaoedd tebyg.

Roedd y gofalwyr yn hynod ddiolchgar am y cyfle hwn:

“Diolch yn fawr iawn i chi a’r ganolfan gofalwyr am ginio mor hyfryd yn Bistrot Pierre. Bu’n bleser o’r mwyaf i’r ddau ohonom ni. Rydych chi wir yn gwneud gwahaniaeth.”

Dywedodd gofalwr arall,

Rydw i’n teimlo fel person newydd. Diolch am ddangos i mi ei bod yn iawn gofalu amdanaf fy hun hefyd.
Galw mawr

Mae galw mawr am y Micro-grantiau o hyd, sy’n chwarae rhan hollbwysig yn y cynllun. Maent wedi ariannu gweithgareddau personol fel bwyta allan, ymweliadau â sba a theithiau i’r sinema, gan roi cyfleoedd i ymlacio a mwynhau.

Dywedodd Runa Begum, o Ganolfan Gofalwyr Abertawe, “Mae’r prosiect hwn wedi ein galluogi ni i gynnig amrywiaeth o ddatrysiadau arloesol o ran seibiant sy’n addas i anghenion amrywiol gofalwyr, fel gofal llanw a chyfleoedd i gael seibiant ar adeg ac mewn lleoliad sy’n addas iddyn nhw. Mae hyn yn arbennig o amlwg gyda thalebau Micro-grantiau, lle gall gofalwyr ddewis beth maen nhw'n ei hoffi a phryd y gallan nhw ei ddefnyddio."

Cynhwysiant

Mae cefnogi’r gymuned ethnig leiafrifol yn ffocws allweddol i Ganolfan Gofalwyr Abertawe. Roedd gofalwyr o’r gymuned hon wedi gofyn yn benodol am daith undydd i Alum Rock yn Birmingham. Roedd y daith hon yn eu galluogi i siopa ar gyfer Ramadan ac Eid, gan ddarparu diwrnod di-straen i ffwrdd o'u rolau gofalu.

Mynegodd un gofalwr ei ddiolchgarwch, gan ddweud,

“Diolch am ddiwrnod i’r brenin. Alla i ddim gyrru, felly braf iawn oedd cael mynd ar y daith yma. Alla i ddim aros tan y daith nesaf!”

Yn ogystal, roedd y cynllun wedi ariannu’r digwyddiad Blwyddyn Newydd Tsieineaidd ar gyfer grŵp dementia Llansamlet, gan alluogi gofalwyr i ddathlu a chysylltu â'u treftadaeth ddiwylliannol.

Gwasanaeth gwarchod

Mae cyllid o’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn galluogi gweithwyr cymorth a gwirfoddolwyr i gynnig cwmnïaeth ddwy awr yr wythnos am gyfnod o bum wythnos. Mae’r cymorth hwn yn hanfodol er mwyn lleihau straen a gwella ansawdd bywyd gofalwyr a’r rhai maen nhw’n gofalu amdanyn nhw. Gall y gofalwyr gael seibiant, gan wybod bod eu hanwyliaid mewn dwylo da.

Diolch i’r gwasanaeth cwmnïaeth hwn, cafodd un gofalwr, sy’n wreiddiol o Ganada, gymorth ar ôl cael ei llethu gan ei dyletswyddau gofalu ac yn daer am gymorth. Llwyddodd i fynd i sesiwn hyfforddi dementia, heb boeni am adael ei rhieni bregus ar eu pen eu hunain.

Rhannodd gofalwr arall, “Diolch o galon am y cymorth rydych chi wedi’i roi i mi dros yr wythnosau diwethaf. Mae Sian (y gwarchodwr) wedi bod yn wych. Mae fy ngŵr yn edrych ymlaen at eu sgyrsiau. Rydw i’n teimlo fel person newydd sydd ddim yn ofni gofyn am help mwyach. Diolch am ddangos i mi ei bod yn iawn gofalu amdanaf fy hun hefyd.”

Mwy na seibiant

Mae'r prosiect wedi rhoi cyfle i ofalwyr gael amser iddyn nhw eu hunain, lle gallan nhw gwrdd â phobl a chymdeithasu i ffwrdd o'u rolau gofalu. Mae’r Micro-grantiau, y teithiau, y gweithgareddau a’r gwasanaeth cwmnïaeth wedi creu cysylltiadau ymysg gofalwyr sydd mewn sefyllfaoedd tebyg. Mae’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn fwy na dim ond seibiant; mae’n gyfle i ofalwyr ailgysylltu â nhw eu hunain a phobl eraill, gan feithrin gwytnwch a gofalu am eu llesiant.

Diolch i gyllid tan fis Mawrth 2026, mae Canolfan Gofalwyr Abertawe yn parhau i estyn allan a chefnogi gofalwyr newydd.

Swansea Carers Centre

	Empowering Carers with Vital Breaks

Thanks to the Short Breaks Scheme, Swansea Carers Centre has been able to help carers recharge and improve their wellbeing, providing a range of activities, from popular relaxing hotel stays to fun day trips out.

Carers have enjoyed outings to places like Oakwood Park, Cardiff Castle and the Bristol Christmas Market. These trips provided a chance for carers to unwind and enjoy new experiences away from their daily responsibilities. Holistic therapies and subscriptions, such as memberships to the National Trust, allowed carers to enjoy some self-care and explore new interests, contributing to their overall wellbeing. Social events were a particular highlight of the project, with celebrations for Valentine's, Christmas and St David's Day bringing carers together to socialise, sing and dance.

Emma Daniels, Deputy CEO, Swansea Carers Centre, says,

The Short Breaks Scheme has enabled carers to understand their situation better, understand the needs of the cared for, reduce stress and improve confidence in caregiving responsibilities.

“Feedback from carers strongly indicates that accessing respite breaks can give people the motivation to carry on and sustain their caring relationship.” Emma says.

Working together

Swansea Carers Centre were quick to react when an unexpected opportunity arose thanks to the generous offer from Bistrot Pierre to give 25 carers a 3-course meal, completely free of charge. Funding from the Short Breaks Scheme simply paid for the transport to take these carers to the restaurant. This allowed opportunities for carers to meet with and bond with other carers in a similar situation to them.

Carers were extremely grateful for this opportunity:

“I just wanted to send a huge thank you to you and the carers centre for such a lovely lunch at Bistro Pierre. It was such a treat for both of us. You really make a difference.”

Another carer shared,

I feel like a new person. Thank you for showing me it's okay to look after myself too.
In demand

Demand has remained high for Microgrants, which play a crucial role in the scheme. They have funded personalised activities such as dining out, spa visits and cinema trips, providing opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment.

Runa Begum, from Swansea Carers Centre tell us, “This project has enabled us to offer a range of innovative respite solutions to suit the varying needs of carers, for replacement care and opportunities to access breaks at a time and place that suits them. This is particularly evidenced with the Microgrant vouchers, where carers can choose what they like and when they can use it.”

Inclusivity

Supporting the minoritised ethnic community is a key focus for Swansea Carers Centre. A day trip to Alum Rock in Birmingham was specifically requested by carers from this community. This trip allowed them to shop for Ramadan and Eid, providing a stress-free day away from their caring roles.

One carer expressed their gratitude, saying, “Thank you for a wonderful day out. I can't drive, so this trip was a rare treat. I can't wait for the next one!”

Additionally, the scheme funded a Chinese New Year event for the Llansamlet dementia group, allowing carers to celebrate and connect with their cultural heritage.

Sitting service

Funding from the Short Breaks Scheme enables support workers and volunteers to offer companionship sits for two hours a week for five weeks. This support is crucial in reducing stress and improving the quality of life for both carers and those they care for. The carers can take a break, safe in the knowledge that their loved ones are in good hands.

One carer, originally from Canada, who was becoming overwhelmed with her caring duties and desperate for some support, was helped thanks to this companionship service. She was able to attend a dementia training session, without worrying about leaving her frail parents alone.

Another shares, “Thank you so much for the support you have shown me the past few weeks. Sian (the sitter) has been an absolute delight. My husband looks forward to their chats. I feel like a new person who isn't afraid to ask for help any more. Thank you for showing me that it is ok to look after myself too.”

More than a break

The project has allowed carers the opportunity to have time for themselves, where they can meet people and socialise away from their caring roles. The Microgrants, trips, activities and the companionship service have created connections amongst carers who are in similar situations. The Short Breaks Scheme is more than just a break; it's a chance for carers to reconnect with themselves and others, fostering resilience and wellbeing.

Thanks to funding until March 2026, Swansea Carers Centre continues to reach out and support new carers. Find out more.

Yr Anawsterau Cudd sy’n wynebu Gofalwyr Di-dâl yn ystod y Gwyliau

I nifer, mae gwyliau’r Pasg yn gyfle da i gymryd rhan mewn gweithgareddau i groesawu’r gwanwyn, cwrdd â theulu a ffrindiau, neu fynd ar dripiau cyffrous. Mae’r ysgolion wedi cau, mae teuluoedd yn teithio, ac mae atgofion yn cael eu creu. Ond, i ofalwyr di-dâl, mae hi’n stori wahanol ac mae’r gwyliau yn amlygu’r heriau sy’n eu hwynebu.

Mae’r wythnosau hyn yn bleserus i rai, ond maent yn gallu bod yn llethol i’r rhai sy'n gorfod ysgwyddo’r baich o ofalu am rywun. Mae’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn gallu cynnig cefnogaeth a chysur.

Tu allan i'r ysgol

Mae rhai wrth eu bodd yn cael hoe o’r ysgol, ond mae peidio â chael cefnogaeth ac amserlen ysgol yn ystod gwyliau’r Pasg yn ei gwneud hi’n anoddach i ofalwyr ddygymod â’u cyfrifoldebau cynyddol. Mae rhai gofalwyr ifanc yn dibynnu ar yr ysgol i gael cefnogaeth a chyfle i ryngweithio’n gymdeithasol, ac felly mae’r gwyliau yn golygu eu bod yn colli cysylltiadau ac adnoddau, sy’n gallu bod yn ynysig iawn.

Dywedodd un gofalwr ifanc:

“Dwi’n teimlo’n euog am gymryd seibiant a phan fydd gen i amser i mi fy hun dwi wastad yn meddwl am bethau eraill y gallwn i fod yn eu gwneud i helpu. Mae’n gyfnod ynysig oherwydd dwi ddim yn gallu cwrdd â fy ffrindiau. Dwi’n gallu tecstio ond dydi hynny ddim yr un peth. Mae pawb yn trefnu gwyliau neu dripiau, ond dwi’n gwybod nad ydw i’n gallu mynd ar wyliau.”

Mae’r rhieni sy’n ofalwyr yn gorfod wynebu’r heriau arferol yn ogystal â gofalu am blant sydd adref llawn amser a hynny heb eu trefniadau gofal arferol a’u system gefnogaeth. Maent yn gorfod cydbwyso cyfrifoldebau heb gefnogaeth ddigonol.

Cyfle i gael seibiant

Diolch i gyllid parhaus gan Lywodraeth Cymru, mae’r Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn gallu cynnig achubiaeth i ofalwyr di-dâl yn ystod y cyfnodau heriol hyn. Mae rhwydwaith o 28 o sefydliadau gofalwyr yng Nghymru yn cefnogi’r cynllun hwn sy’n rhoi cyfle i ofalwyr gael mwynhau amrywiaeth o weithgareddau a chyfnodau o seibiant.

I ofalwyr ifanc, gall y cyfnodau o seibiant gynnwys profiadau cyffrous mewn amgylchedd ddiogel a strwythuredig, er enghraifft darpariaeth y Bartneriaeth Awyr Agored. Gall ychydig o oriau i adfywio, ac i ofalu amdanyn nhw eu hunain, neu gael seibiant heb orfod poeni, wneud byd o wahaniaeth i rieni sy’n ofalwyr.

Ymdopi â gofynion y dyfodol

Mae prosiect ‘mwynhau seibiant’ DAFFODILS wedi rhoi cefnogaeth i ofalwyr di-dâl yn Sir y Fflint i fwynhau amrywiaeth o gyfnodau o seibiant, a hynny’n bennaf yn ystod gwyliau’r ysgol a choleg, sef y cyfnod mae gofalwyr angen cefnogaeth fwyaf.

Dywedodd mam i bedwar o blant sydd hefyd yn brif ofalwr i’w phlentyn wyth oed :

Doeddwn i ddim wedi sylweddoli cymaint yr oeddwn i angen seibiant tan i mi gael cyfle i arafu.

Yn ystod y seibiant byr, cafodd hi gyfle i feddwl am ei gwaith hi fel gofalwr a sut i ymdopi â phethau’n well yn y dyfodol. Yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf mae hi wedi datblygu gorbryder, ond mae hwnnw wedi lleihau. Mae hi wedi sylweddoli bod treulio amser â grŵp cefnogol o bobl sydd mewn sefyllfaoedd tebyg iddi yn allweddol i’w gwaith fel gofalwr, ac yn nodi bod cymryd rhan yn y gweithgareddau wythnosol yn ystod y gwyliau wedi bod yn wych.

Seibiant Haeddiannol

Mae’r Pasg yn gyfnod o ddathlu, ond yn gyfnod heriol i ofalwyr di-dâl. Mae systemau cefnogi fel y Cynllun Seibiant Byr yn ein hatgoffa bod gofalwyr di-dâl yn haeddu seibiant, ac yn sicrhau eu bod hwythau hefyd yn gallu cael cyfle i ymlacio yn ystod y gwyliau.

Os ydych chi, neu unrhyw un rydych chi’n adnabod yn ofalwr di-dâl ac yn wynebu heriau yn ystod y gwyliau cysylltwch ag un o’r sefydliadau gofalwyr lleol yn eich ardal chi er mwyn cael y gefnogaeth sydd ei angen arnoch i ddygymod â’r cyfnodau anodd hyn.

The Hidden Struggles of Unpaid Carers During the Holidays

For many, the Easter break is a welcome opportunity to enjoy springtime activities, reconnect with family and friends, or embark on exciting trips. Schools close, families travel, and memories are made. However, for unpaid carers, the holidays can amplify the challenges they face.

The holidays, while joyous for some, can be overwhelming for those who bear the weight of caregiving responsibilities. The Short Breaks Scheme can offer some support and respite.

Out of school

While others revel in their downtime, the absence of school routines and support during the Easter holidays can leave carers struggling to manage increased responsibilities. For young carers who rely on school for social interaction and support, the break can mean losing vital connections and resources and it can be a particularly isolating time.

One young carer said: “I feel bad for taking breaks and when I have time for myself I’m always thinking that I could be doing something else to help out. It’s isolating because I can’t meet up with friends. I can text but it’s just not the same. Everyone’s planning their holidays and trips but I know I can’t go on holiday.”

Parent carers face the compounded burden of managing care as their usual structures of care and support disappear, with children home full-time. They are juggling multiple responsibilities without adequate support.

A chance for a break

Thanks to funding from Welsh Government, the Short Breaks Scheme can offer a lifeline to unpaid carers during these challenging times. Supported by a network of 28 carers’ organisations across Wales, it provides access to a flexible range of activities and short breaks.

For young carers, this could be enriching and exciting experiences in safe and structured environments. For parent carers, it might be a few precious hours or days to recharge, reconnect with themselves, or simply rest without worry that can make all the difference.

The break can be something the carer does on their own, or with the person they care for, or even involve the whole family. Funding can also help provide replacement care to enable a carer to enjoy a break of their choice knowing the person they care for is in safe hands.

Managing future demands

DAFFODILS ‘enjoy a break’ project has supported unpaid parent carers in Flintshire to enjoy a wide variety of breaks, mainly during the school and college holidays, when carers most need the support.

One mother of four and primary caregiver for her eight-year-old guardian says,

I didn’t realise how much I was running on empty until I finally had a chance to slow down.

The time on the short break excursions allowed her to reflect on her caregiving role and how she could better manage the demands moving forward. Her anxiety, which had been building over the years, has reduced. She realised that to sustain her caregiving relationship, it was great to be involved on a weekly basis in the holidays, spending time with such a supportive group of people in similar situations.

Deserving a break

Easter, while a time of renewal and celebration for many, brings unique challenges to unpaid carers. Support systems like the Short Breaks Scheme remind us that unpaid carers deserve a break, ensuring they, too, can find moments of relief and relaxation during the holiday period.

If you or someone you know is an unpaid carer facing holiday challenges, reaching out to one of our local carers’ organisation in your area could provide the much-needed support to get through these tough periods.

***************************

Carers Trust Wales Director Kate Cubbage talks to BBC Radio Wales about the amazing role of young carers and the impact of holidays (listen at 48:38mins) and we also hear from two young carers supported by Bridgend Carers Centre on The Phone In - John-Paul Davies BBC Sounds

Techtivity

Dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf, mae Techtivity wedi gweddnewid bywydau 120 o ofalwyr drwy gymysgedd da o wyliau byr sydd wedi’u cynllunio i gynnig hwyl a seibiant.

O ddiwrnodau sba a therapïau holistaidd i wyliau teuluol bythgofiadwy a phrydau grŵp, cafodd gofalwyr gyfle hollbwysig i ymlacio a chysylltu – sy’n hanfodol er mwyn iddyn nhw gynnal eu rolau heriol.

Cafodd y profiadau hyn eu curadu a’u darparu’n ofalus drwy gydol y flwyddyn, ar y cyd â sefydliadau lleol fel Canolfan Gofalwyr Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr a BING, gan sicrhau bod gofalwyr o amrywiaeth eang o gymunedau – gan gynnwys gofalwyr sy’n ddynion, gofalwyr LHDTC+, a grwpiau ethnig lleiafrifol – yn cael mynediad.

Yr Effaith

Hwb i Les:
Dywedodd gofalwyr eu bod yn teimlo fel eu bod wedi ymlacio mwy, eu bod mewn hwyliau gwell yn emosiynol, ac wedi'u hadfywio'n gorfforol ar ôl cymryd rhan. “Mae’r therapïau holistaidd yn gwneud gwahaniaeth go iawn! Rydw i’n gadael yn teimlo’n braf ac wedi dadflino,” meddai un gofalwr.

Cryfhau Perthnasoedd:
Drwy gamu i ffwrdd o’u pwysau o ddydd i ddydd, roedd gofalwyr yn gallu ailgysylltu â’u hanwyliaid ac â nhw eu hunain. “Fe gawson ni amser gwych dros y penwythnos. Dydyn ni ddim wedi bod i ffwrdd ers pum mlynedd ... mae mor hawdd peidio â gwneud pethau fel teulu pan mae gennych chi blentyn sydd ag anghenion ychwanegol.”

Bod yn Wydn Eto:
Boed hynny drwy seibiant tawel dros nos neu daith llawn hwyl i'r teulu, roedd y gofalwyr yn dychwelyd yn barod am eu rôl. Fel y dywedodd un:

Roedd peidio â gorfod delio â’r pwysau, hyd yn oed am gyfnod byr, yn golygu ein bod wedi gallu ymlacio a’n bod ni wedi cael cyfle i gael ail wynt a chychwyn eto... Fe wnaethon ni ddychwelyd adref gydag egni newydd.
Straeon Gofalwyr

Cwpl yn Ailddarganfod eu Hunain
Fe wnaeth pâr priod, sy’n gofalu am eu dau fab sydd ag awtistiaeth a chyflyrau ychwanegol, yn ogystal â chwaer hŷn â sgitsoffrenia, fanteisio ar sawl gwyliau byr drwy Techtivity.

Dyma’r math o gyfleoedd nad ydym yn eu cael yn aml... I gysgu heb neb yn tarfu neu i eistedd a mwynhau cwmni ein gilydd... Fe wnaeth hyn roi cyfle i ni fod yn gwpl ac fe aethon ni nôl adref gydag egni newydd.

Cyfle i fam sengl gael ei chefn ati
Fe wnaeth mam sengl i ddau fachgen awtistig yn eu harddegau gymryd rhan mewn sesiynau therapi holistaidd a gwyliau bach dros benwythnos.
“Mae Mandy (y therapydd) mor hyfryd – rydw i bob amser yn dod oddi yno’n teimlo’n newydd eto ac yn barod i wynebu heriau’r cartref... Cafodd y gwyliau penwythnos eu trefnu i ni; cafodd y bechgyn amser gwych gyda ffrindiau ac roeddwn i’n gallu mwynhau bod i ffwrdd gyda nhw.”

Casgliad

Mae rhaglen blwyddyn o hyd Techtivity yn dangos gwir werth seibiant neu wyliau byr: nid dim ond cyfleoedd i gael gorffwys ydyn nhw, maen nhw’n achubiaeth sy'n adfer, yn ailgysylltu, ac yn grymuso gofalwyr i barhau â'u rolau hanfodol gyda chryfder a gobaith. Mae eu model - personol, cymunedol a chynhwysol - yn enghraifft wych o sut mae gofal i ofalwyr yn creu tonnau o effaith ar draws teuluoedd a chymunedau.

Over the past year, Techtivity, a volunteer-led organisation, has transformed the lives of 120 carers through a rich mix of short breaks designed to offer both joy and respite.

From soothing holistic therapies and spa days to unforgettable family breaks and group meals, carers experienced powerful moments of relaxation and connection - essential for sustaining their challenging roles.

These experiences were carefully curated and delivered across the year, in collaboration with local organisations like Bridgend Carers Centre and BING, ensuring carers from a diverse range of communities - including male carers, LGBTQ+ carers, and minoritised ethnic groups - had access.

The Impact

Wellbeing Boosted: Carers reported feeling more relaxed, emotionally uplifted, and physically refreshed after taking part. “The holistic therapies really do make a difference! I come away feeling relaxed and refreshed,” shared one carer.

Relationships Strengthened: By stepping away from their day-to-day pressures, carers were able to reconnect with loved ones and themselves. “We had a fab time this weekend. We haven’t been away for five years … it’s not easy to do things as a family when you have a child with additional needs.”

Resilience Rebuilt: Whether through a peaceful overnight break or a joyful family trip, carers returned to their roles recharged. As one put it:

Not having to deal with the pressure, even for a short time, meant we were able to relax and allowed us to reset… We returned home with renewed energy.
Carer Stories
A Couple Rediscovering Themselves

A married couple caring for their two sons with autism and additional conditions, as well as an older sister with schizophrenia, accessed multiple short breaks through Techtivity.

These were the kind of opportunities we rarely get… To sleep without disruption or sit and enjoy each other’s company… it created space for us as a couple and we returned home with renewed energy.
A Single Mum Recharging

A single mother of two autistic teenage boys took part in holistic therapy sessions and a weekend break.
“Mandy (the therapist) is so lovely- I always come away feeling renewed and ready to face the challenges of home… The weekend break was all arranged for us; the boys had a great time with friends and I could just enjoy being away with them.”

Shining example

Techtivity’s project demonstrates the true value of short breaks: not just moments of rest, but lifelines that restore, reconnect and empower carers to continue their crucial roles with strength and hope. Their model - personal, community-driven and inclusive - stands as a shining example of how care for carers creates ripples of impact across families and communities.
